FAQs

Absolutely! Wooden worktops can bring warmth, elegance and a natural aesthetic to your home space. Plus due to their ability to be continually sanded, they can most certainly outlive any other worktop type (e.g. granite, marble, quartz and laminate). A wooden worktop is an excellent choice for a versatile, durable and timeless appeal that can complement various kitchen design styles.

Mainly hardwood species such as oak, walnut, beech, iroko and ash. Each type has its own unique characteristics in terms of colour, grain pattern and hardness. Choose a wood that matches your desired look and meets your durability requirements.

Yes, when properly maintained, wooden worktops are highly durable. Regular re-oiling and appropriate care can help prevent moisture damage and staining, ensuring your worktops last for many, many years.

No! You shouldn’t place hot pans on a wood worktop. Wood is a natural insulator and we highly recommend using worktop savers, or trivets when dealing with cookware straight off the stove or out of the oven. Placing hot pots or pans directly on the surface may cause discolouration, burns or even warping.

Wooden worktops should be regularly cleaned with mild soap and water. Promptly mop-up spills and use cutting boards and trivets to avoid direct heat and scratches.

Wooden worktops should always be protected with a worktop oil. Looking after a wood worktop long-term means periodically re-applying the oil to keep the wood nourished and protected and it’s a simple, quick process. We recommend using Osmo Top Oil or Rustins Danish Oil.

Wooden countertops do require a little bit more maintenance compared to some other materials like laminates, but the effort is well worth the natural beauty they bring. With proper care, wooden worktops can remain stunning and functional for years.

Of course! Wooden worktops can be used in various settings, including bathrooms, offices and as tabletops for furniture. Just keep in mind the specific requirements of the area, such as moisture levels in a bathroom, as it may require more frequent maintenance. You may prefer the lower-maintenance option of a compact laminate or similar for this particular area.

A properly sealed wooden worktop can handle water spillages. However, wooden worktops can be susceptible to water damage if not properly maintained. Regular re-sealing (oiling) helps create a protective barrier against moisture in the long-term and is very easy to do.

It's advisable to always use cutting boards to prevent scratches and nicks on your worktops. Cutting directly on the surface can lead to damage over time.

Wooden worktops made from sustainably sourced wood are considered environmentally friendly. Look for products with certifications like FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) to ensure responsible wood sourcing. All House of Worktops wooden worktops are FSC certified.
